Funeral Services

The hardest thing you will ever have to do is to say goodbye to some one you love or care for. However, as Muslims we accept the ultimate and submit to the wish of Allah, (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) our Creator, with patience; and pray for mercy and forgiveness for the deceased. Alhamdulillah, the Islamic Foundation has the facilities and a team of caring volunteers to assist you with the funeral arrangement. The cost, to meet our expenses, is nominal.

Mortuary and Ghusl (Bathing the deceased)

We have a well-equipped mortuary to give ghusl (bathing) and prepare the body for burial in a wooden casket, as required by the law. There is also a refrigerated room for the storage of up to four bodies, if required. Volunteers are available, both brothers and sisters to give the ghusl and prepare the body, if needed.

Cemetery

The Foundation has access to a Muslim graveyard at Pine Ridge Memorial Garden in Pickering. The purchasing of the gravesite and the making of the necessary arrangements can be completed by contacting our office.

The burial services available are as follows:

	Same day burial is possible, if requested prior to 9AM
	Monday to Saturday - regular services
	Sunday and holidays - the cemetery imposes additional charges

Salatul Janaza (Prayer for the deceased)

The Salatul Janaza can be performed in the mosque. There are separate prayer areas for men and women. Non-Muslim friends are welcome in the mosque for funeral services, however, the proper dress code is expected.

What should I do if the need arises?

Call the Foundation at 416-876-3000 or 416-321-0909. You will be directed to the Funeral Committee. The committee members will then take care of all the related services. The entire process takes time and your presence in the office may be necessary. We, therefore, suggest that the office be contacted in advance in instances where death is expected.
