IFS Recent Developments: Letter to Parents

Wednesday October 4th, 2017

Assalamu Alaikum Dear Parents,

We pray this letter finds you in goo health and strong Iman. We would like to inform all parents that the union negotiations are in progress between Islamic Foundation of Toronto and UFCW Local 175, our teachers union. The Union has asked for a “No Board Report”. This report was issued on September 15, 2017.

As a result exactly 17 days after this report is issued, October 2, the Teachers will be in a legal position to take a strike vote and may or may not call a strike. Similarly, the Employer, Islamic Foundation may lock them out. Please note that this is only a process and it does not mean that it will happen.

The Union has also applied to the Ontario Labour Relations Board to seek first contract arbitration on September 28th 2017, and it is currently before the Ontario Labour Relations Board. Majlis (Board of Directions) will be responding to this application.

Please be advised that the Majlis has not made a decision to close the IFS School.

Insha’Allah, the Majlis will keep you informed with regular updates. We request patience and cooperation from the parents and the staff in running the school effectively and professionally.

The Majlis has been monitoring the situation very closely to ensure our standard of education is not being compromised. We are communication with IFS staff to render their services in a professional manner.

If you have questions, please contact our School Principal Sr. Nusrat Sacranie.

Wassalam,

Khaleel Khan
Secretary
Islamic Foundation of Toronto
